Safety Workshop

Join Chris McCay, an experienced safety freediver from world championships, VB, and numerous high-level events, along with Rodrigo Salsas, the chief of safety of the Azul Freediving Challenge, in this advanced safety workshop. This course, recognized by AIDA, is highly recommended for those aspiring to be part of a safety team in freediving competitions. You will learn essential teamwork skills for both pool and depth events, as well as the necessary steps to rescue and evacuate a freediver in an emergency.

Goals:

Risk Management: Gain a comprehensive understanding of the potential risks and hazards associated with freediving. Learn how to identify and mitigate these risks effectively to prevent accidents and injuries.

Emergency Preparedness: Acquire essential techniques and protocols for handling emergency situations in freediving. This includes training in rescue procedures, responding to blackout or loss of consciousness, and first aid skills. Being prepared to respond effectively in emergencies can make a significant difference in saving lives.

Become qualified to be part of a safety team in any AIDA freediving competition.

Day 1: Theory for Pool Session:

  • Overview of AIDA International Competitions and characteristics of AIDA International Pool Competitions.
  • Detailed information about different pool disciplines.
  • Pool Practice:
    • Observation and identification of potential issues.
    • Rescue techniques for various pool disciplines.
    • Evacuation procedures and utilization of first aid equipment.

Day 2: Theory for Depth Session:

  • General characteristics of AIDA International Depth Competitions.
  • Detailed information about different depth disciplines.
  • Depth Practice:
    • Utilization of the freediving platform.
    • Team rescue exercises and the use of counterweights.
    • Evacuation protocols.

By participating in this safety workshop, you’ll develop advanced safety skills, gain a thorough understanding of competition requirements, and be better equipped to ensure the well-being of freedivers in various scenarios.
